Holiday in Paris

July 18th, 2008 by admin

Owing to its location, Paris has a temperate, oceanic climate; the river it straddles, the Seine, also has two islands, situated in the oldest part of the city. Owing to the amount of places to visit a short stay in Paris will be a busy one; most people promise to return as so much they wanted to see will have been missed.

It is renowned for its wonderful Gothic inspired buildings and street markets; plus sights like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and many other places that are havens for tourists, both home grown and international. Traveling around Paris is relatively easy for visitors as well as locals; the underground train system or Metro can take you to anywhere within the city and is simple to use.

It wouldn’t be possible to visit this city without a trip to the top of the famous steel structure known as the Eiffel Tower; it provides stunning views from the top and is visible throughout most of the city. Illuminated at night it dominates the city’s skyline; guided tours add to the thrill as you get to peek into history on how it was constructed.

On your Paris trip ensure you add the famous Champs Elysees to your list of places to visit; you can see beautiful shops, sit and drink coffee from the many cafes or have a meal in a first class restaurant. This avenue may be select but it attracts large numbers of visitors daily; most of the five star hotels are located here but more affordable hotels can be found further out.

The world famous Louvre museum is in this city; with over 300,000 wonderful artistic works, you simply cannot see all of it in one day. Even on a short stay in Paris, this is a an art lovers paradise; with so many visitors (around eight million), sometimes it can be difficult seeing some of the famous works. Paris has always been a magnetic destination for artists; these include Monet and Picasso who very fortunately left some of their work here for all to enjoy.

Another famous Paris attraction is The Arc de Triomphe which was built within the first decade of the nineteenth century; the names of his generals engraved upon it to honor them and his troops. Many people do not know that an observatory was included in the design which affords great views of the surrounding area; it stands in the place where the city’s main avenues begin including the Champs Elysees.

This city has a huge variety of places to visit, many of these have not even mentioned here; there are plenty of others to keep you occupied but to make the most of your time, use one of the guided tours. It is fair to say that you won’t see everything on a Paris short stay of two or even three day break; anything that’s missed will have to take a rain check.
